On side-effects

Monday, October 29th, 2007

Whenever I get to see you regularly it’s great, but things do end up getting a bit quiet on here. That’s not the only reason it is quiet. I’m just not feeling very inspired of late. I wonder what I can do about it.

Look!

An Aquatic Warbler Acrocephalus paulidicola. You can tell it’s not a Sedge Warbler by the two stripes on its back.
I’ve not seen one of those before. Pretty.
I know it’s raining, but – woooah, water birds?
Update: It isn’t an aquatic warbler. I got a close look. There isn’t a stripe along the centre of its head, [...]

Where is Canterbury, again?

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

Today I almost met the Archbishop of Canterbury. Similarly, a number of years ago I almost met the Dalai Lama. With regards to the Dalai Lama I was two hours late. For the Archbishop, tardiness was not the issue. Judging by the suits and boots I was probably a few minutes early in finishing [...]

On curious customs

Sunday, October 14th, 2007

A Wren just flitted into the garden. I like Wren. In Wales they are meant to bring luck.
On twelfth night, the young lads used to go out and hunt a Wren. They would then capture it in a cage and take it around the village where the occupants of the dwellings would pay the youths [...]

On juicy delights

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

There was a knock at the window. Outside, the gardener looked pleased with herself. I opened the aperture, and her hand extended into the house. Cupped carefully in it, in a scene comparable to a Grimm’s tale, was a medium to large dull looking apple. I took it, a little hesitantly.
It was yellowy brown with [...]

Hollywood calling

Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Ooooh.
If your life does indeed get as weird as The Gupta’s, can I have first dibs on the film rights?

On a period of absence

So, did you miss me?
No?
Didn’t get the chance, huh?

Tight, black and shiny

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

At least I have your attention. Rightly so, because something this afternoon took my attention. Unusually I noticed what someone was wearing. Not so surprising when the item of clothing under scrutiny was a pair of tight, black and shiny leather trousers,  leaving little to the imagination. They had shiny rivets around the pockets on [...]

For heaven’s sake, shut up!

Saturday, October 6th, 2007

There are times when I don’t realise how much I talk. Sometimes, I don’t realise how loud I am. Other times I just continually babble incessantly saying not very much in particular. Frankly I am amazed it has taken you this long before it has been much of an issue, but editing with a constant [...]

A most curious telephonic phenomenon

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Having just put the phone down from our conversation I pondered a little.
In an office full of colleagues your attempt to embarrass me slightly by telling me you love me didn’t work. I am not likely to go coy or shy. What I found most curious was the fact that I couldn’t reciprocate. Why?
These are colleagues I [...]
