Cancellation

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

By now I should be sitting with you, leaning into you on the sofa with your arms around me. I should be resting my head on your chest, listening to you breathing.
I’m not. You may have noticed.
I’m sitting typing away, with all my best plans scuppered.
If they’d held their decision for another twenty minutes, they [...]

On writing cards

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I can never choose the correct pen.
The ink stopped flowing in the first pen I chose. Which is a shame, it wrote nicely.
The second pen had grit stuck in the nib. It was intermittent, making it look like my handwriting is worse than it actually is.

Shock excellence in customer service

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

For the second time in less than a month I have received outstanding customer service from none other than a high street bank’s telephone banking service. You know the ones - where everyone complains that they send the phonecalls abroad and you can’t understand what is being said.
Well, I’d like to redress the balance. I [...]

In fear of the blue light

Friday, December 14th, 2007

This afternoon a car pulled out in front of me whilst I was driving.  Thankfully my reactions were speedy and my brakes were up to scratch. No one was harmed.
I allowed my mind to wander. What if there had been an accident. What if I had been breathalysed. What if I was over.
‘What?’ I hear [...]

On repeats

Friday, December 14th, 2007

A measure of one’s intelligence is not making the same mistake twice. Damn, that makes me stupid then.
