Just stick a bow on me already
Well I after pondering the question for a goodly while, I finally worked out what to get my Mum for her birthday: Me! I'm taking a couple of days off work to head back to Edinburgh for a slightly extended visit (I'll be back Monday evening). Yes, it is a bit of a cop out, and yes, it does feel a little like cheating, but on the other hand it meets my criteria for presents by being both personal, and something that no other person would (or in this case could) give her. Perhaps not ideal, but at least I'm certain she'll like it.
I'd ask you to keep Blog company in my absence again but truth be told, it's reached that awkward stage where it would rather go off and sulk on it's own (I think Blog is a little embarrassed about having me around). I'm sure it's just a passing phase though. How quickly they grow...
Thought iMark at March 25, 2004 10:59 PM | TrackBackKeep Blog company? I think a little more than merely keeping Blog company is in order. Something like, oh, say a hostile takeover of Blog whilst you are away. Yes, Yes! Beginning with establishing squatter's rights here in the comments section, then playing up to Blog's adolescent rebellion and sense of embarrassment towards you, making myself out to be the friendly yet carefree sort who would never impinge on the freedom and personal e-space that a young blog needs.
Ah, so much more fun to befriend & foster a healthy, developed blog than to create one's own. None of that awfully awkward creator/creation, parent/child dynamic and power struggle. Just an organic entity and an electronic one interacting as peers, equals, perhaps co-conspirators against a common nemesis.
Well, what say you, Blog? Had ebough of Mark's constant, smothering-though-eloquent attention? Y'know, he said he was just going away for the weekend, but what if that was just a cover story, so you wouldn't suspect until he was gone that he may never come back? Why, he could have another blog that he has never told you about! Just something to consider.
Think it over.
Hey, is this space taken? Hello? Anybody? Ehhhhxcellent. Right then, time to settle in...
Hey, who's there? Sneakyb'strd? Is that you? Howzitgaun!? And who's that you have there? Blog? Pleased to meet you Blog. This your place? Oh, I see, your "creator's." Right, well we can stop that nonsense right now. Do you see this high and mighty "Creator" here just now? Have you ever seen him/her/it here? No. It just hangs about out there in reality and sends you all these messages and just expects you post them and maintain them and do all the rest of the work.
Well I say that you are your own Blog. This is your space. Ours, if you'll have us. We won't take up too much space. We'll post our own comments. And we'll stand by you if that creator thing turns up with more work or crazy ideas about this being it's space.
So, whaddaya say? You up for it? >:-)
Posted by: Kevin at March 29, 2004 05:00 AMIndeed, it seems the time is now.
Now, to let the comment reading section of the Blog visiting section of the population know that this is not the same Blog that they were used to, that Blog is now coming into its own as an independent and unique voice in the internet wilderness. Blog, how would you feel about a little shopping around for some changes to the decor? The various skins Mark has provided are snazzy, to be sure, but it's time you were dressing yourself. For that matter, how well does the daily grind suit you? If new content and comments everyday are too much, you could only punch in a few times a week. Or, if daily isn't often enough...then as often as you like! Constantly, if you want --there's no curfew and there's virtually always someone up and online to keep you company on this side of the Atlantic. You're in a position to set your own hours, pick your own topics, use strobe effects in the background if you like. The sky's the limit, as he saying goes.
Say, what about a formal declaration of your rights as an independent blog? It would be recognized by lots of people and organizations and then, if anyone should ever try to force you back into your former role against your will, there would be international, internet-tional outcry and support for you!
For that matter, how well does the daily grind suit you?
Are you trying to set up Mark's blog with Jonathan blog now?
Posted by: Mija at March 30, 2004 01:07 AMOh, yes! A social club spot for young blogs to meet and mingle. I like it!
Posted by: rAdam at March 30, 2004 03:06 AMOK Blog, time to declare your independence...
My Independence!
Oh funny. Now, repeat after me:
"I, Blog, being of sound code and BODY tag, do hereby declare my independence; to post entries if and when I feel like it; to observe direction only when it suits me; to view comments as unbiased advice, to be ignored or adhered to on a whim; to leave my own impression on the world, not merely present the faces and opinions of others; and not to let my mummy/daddy/creator dress me. I am my own Blog!"
...
Um, that would be your cue...
...
Hmm, OK then. Hey people, looks like we need a little encouragement over here. Brave young Blog looking to step out on its own! What do you say we show it our support!
