a choice

It’s a choice.
If you choose to take it, that’s fine; if you don’t – likewise.

I spend four hours drawing,
Struggling to choose.
With every stroke of the charcoal I have to choose.

I have the choice:
Lighter?
Darker?
Heavier?
What?

What do I see?
What am I trying to do?
Am I just looking?
Or am I seeing?
Does it matter?
Do I put the charcoal on here?
And take it off here?
And if so: how heavily do I press?

Do I just say:
“To hell with it all,”
And join a Pirate Ship?

Or do I struggle?
Out here,
On the fucking gang-plank.
