Geo, Geo, Geo!

TigersGeovanni Wins PFA Fans Player Of The Month for October. Along with Phil Brown's Manager of The Month for September, and his Goal of The Month at Arsenal in September on Match of The Day, The Tigers are certainly enjoying their spot in the top league of football.

Just to think, 10 years ago this month, Hull City was at rock bottom, relegation out of the football league a real possibility. And, today, they're gunning for a place in Europe. Long may it continue :D

Terminal 5 Arrggghhhh

Just got back from the trip to Rome, and experienced for the second time now the joys of arriving back at Heathrow and coming through Terminal 5 :o(

Don't get me wrong, Terminal 5 is a massive improvement on the way out. The lounges, the terminal, all modern, loaded with facilities, a really relaxing journey as you prepare to leave Heathrow. But coming back? I'd actually say it's worse than the old Terminal 1 and 4. And tonight we had an outside stand, in the rain, followed by a 40 minute wait to cross the taxiway. Which, the bus driver told us, was more the norm now, than the exception.

Worse thing is, if it's like this now, what will it be like when all the flights have been transferred over?

Moving House

Helping Stuart (Jules' brother) move house today. And yes, you're not seeing things, this was posted at 3am :O So much for a quiet day pottering around the house ;o)

It's really brought home just how much you accumulate over time. I've been clearing out more and more in the house over the last few weekends, having had Saturday's free of work, or using the luxury of working from home. Again, finding little boxes of stuff Jules had packed away in a corner, or paperwork which really didn't need keeping. Makes me more determined to clear away all the junk as soon as possible.

Off to bed, not that I'll have long before it's time to get up again. I wouldn't have minded, but I only popped round to collect your recycling, Stu ;o)

All Quiet on The Southern Front...

Well, it's been a busy few months since April, when I was last in here posting entries. Work has been hectic, to say the least. Not that I'm complaining, it's good to be this busy.

Today is the first real holiday, and I've certainly picked the weather for it. Sunny, warm, not your typical October day. Shame I'm spending it indoors, clearing out more and more historic junk - I'm sure there's no legal reason for keeping 20 years of bank statements, is there?

In the next few weeks it'll slowly be back to normal for here, I'll get the drafts posted, and start adding occasional bits and bobs back.

London 0 Hull 4

TigersSo that's 4 London sides who've fallen to The Tigers so far this season :D

First it was the home game against Fulham, the first match of the season, full of expectation. It didn't look good, but they pulled it back, Super-Sub Folan grabbing the winner.

Then the "Cup Final"-like night in Hull watching them beat Arsenal 1-2 with Kev, Ian and half of Bev Road, screaming the pub down when Geovanni's free kick rocketed in, followed by Cousin's header from another corner set piece, breaking the home record at The Emirates. Funny, no-one at work was talking about it the following week.

Next, Spurs, and the rest of my mates at work predicting the bubble was ready to burst, and Geovanni makes another impressive free kick count.

So, today, West Ham at home, and all the pundits still not acknowledging the feat that is Hull City. Not comfortable, but we did it. And as The Housemartins so put it many years ago, it was London 0 Hull 4. And where are Hull City at the moment? Top of the league, nahh, top of the world more like :D

We're Premier League!

Still pinching myself, having spent the day down in London, watching my home team, Hull City, The Tigers, playing at Wembley :oD

I've only been to Wembley once before for the footy, that time it was Stevenage Boro in the FA Trophy. They won that day, and I'd said to Ian I'd a good feeling about how the day might go.

What a game. It really could've gone either way, but Deano came good in the end, with a rocket of a shot, and it was in the bag. A tense remainder of the game, waiting for the final whistle, or a further Hull goal to seal it. Then, at 5 o'clock, the whistle went, putting Hull City in the Premier League :oD The crowd went wild :oD

Been down the Old Town as soon as we got back, celebrating and drinking. Off back downstairs to finish off the champers, remember someone who couldn't be here celebrating with us, and think about calling it a night. Pics of the day in the extended bit :D

We're Off To Wembley!

TigersHaving caught the other playoff on the radio on Sunday, a close match, ending 0-2 to Hull, me and Andy had said we had to go and find somewhere showing the game tonight. After finding a pub in the Old Town showing the second leg, "Who's playing, Hull? Didn't know they had a football team..." Ended up being joined by 5 other Hull fans, surreal, considering how close we are to Watford, I'd have expected to be quietly sitting with Watford fans.

What a match! It started with Watford getting a goal, and we all thought that would be it. No-one expected us to watch 4 goals go in, and the score end up 4-1 to Hull. Barmby's equaliser just before halftime was the goal of the match for me. Where did he come from? Like a rocket from no-where, to head the ball in.

Still pinching myself, can't quite believe, Hull City are off to Wembley :D Better get those tickets bought, there's going to be quite a demand, I'm sure.

Another Saturday Away From Work!

Another weekend where the power's being switched, so no point trying to go to work. Glad in some ways, but it doesn't help with the timescales for getting what's needed to be finished.

Finally getting to a stage where the back bedroom has a lot of crap in it, rather than an infinite amount of crap ;-) Still can't believe some of the rubbish I've accumulated over time. Ah well, another trip to the tip for some, and another large bag of goodies for the Hospice shop.

Kicking Off EVM?

Not exactly the best thing to end a week on, but I had the pleasure of attending the first of a series of working groups looking into coming to a common approach to the application of EVM within the business.

The common theme seemed to be that it's both a technical application of a methodology, as well as a cultural change. I hate using sound bites, but Hearts and Minds sprung to mind, no pun intended. For the projects which have implemented varying levels of EVM, it's been more of a struggle convincing people it's providing a benefit, and not simply another bat for management to hit them with.

It's going to be interesting learning how the business currently does it, how the different cultures and languages help and hinder, and how Primavera fits in with all of it. Not a light task, getting 3, and eventually 4, nations to agree on something we all currently struggle to agree on as individual nations. And we've not even brought in the customer angle!

Anyway, I'm off to Our Mutual Friend for a couple of pints, eager to investigate the earned value metrics of real ale and sour cream & horseradish crisps

St Valentines

No cards yet, guess they must be held up in the postal strike, bet they turn up tomorrow...
